Learn the time expressions we use with the present tenses
TIME
EXPRESSIONS USED WITH PRESENT TENSES
- We use the Present Simple Tense with:
- Adverbs of frequency
NEVER
HARDLY EVER
SOMETIMES
OFTEN
USUALLY
ALWAYS
→ We use adverbs of frequency to say how often we do something.
He always goes out on Saturday nights
They don't usually watch TV in the evenings
-They are placed:
- after the verb TO BE and after AUXILIARY VERBS:
She is always late They have never used a computer
- before all other verbs:
He never listens to the teacher We often play tennis
- Other time expressions when we talk about routines:
- They are usually placed at the end of the sentence:Every day / week / month / year
On + day + -s (Mondays, Tuesdays...)
Once a week / month / year
Twice a week / month / year
We play tennis on Sundays
We go to the swimming pool twice a week
- We use the Present Continuous Tense with:
- the following expressions to express that the action is happening at the moment of speaking:
-now -right now -at the/this moment
It's raining now
We are having breakfast at the moment
- when we talk about actions that happen over a longer period of time we use:
- this morning / this afternoon / this evening -today -this month
She's playing tennis this week
This year I am learning Chinese
